What poses or photograpy tips would you suggest to make someone heavy appear thinner in a photograph?

admin on Oct-9-2008

constructive tips only, please. photography tips for an amateur with a non professional camera. Also, I mean during the picture taking not afterwards, I don't have any computer programs to fix the photos afterwards… can any photographers help?
Thanks everybody for the tips!

My husband looks heavy in the neck in photos, even when he is not that heavy. I find that any photo that has him looking up tends to eliminate that problem and any photo that is looking down is not flattering. I can also tell you that clothes can make a big difference. I have a friend who is self conscious about her left over maternity weight and she wears grey clothes and then puts a light colored scarf around her neck that hangs down to her hips and that scarf makes a huge difference - it's similar to a man wearing a white button down shirt and a dark jacket over top. If the closes fit just loosely enough it gives the appearance of a slimmer person.

Peace!
