One Newbie Photography Tip for kids

admin on Sep-21-2008

Some Newbie Photography tips would have been handy wile on a trip, having your camera with you but did not know what will be good shooting when looking at it years later.

My wife and I made our first trip to Europe some not very recent years ago. On that time, we acquired a nice Fuji camera but the days for digital where not there yet.

We took 40 films about 700 shots and where exited to present them to our friends back home. Many of you may remember how this was, getting home, take the films up to the printing shop and wait for them to get delivered. How many times did I look at a photo and did not remember why or where I took it. We also find some out of focus and shacked. That wasn’t nice in deed, but the worst was that even the photo was not worth it we already played for it in full.

Well, fortunately this was then. Today, the situation is entirely different. Our last trip took us back to Europe again, but this time we were equipped with a nice compact digital camera and also with our laptop. We like taking pictures, and we installed a 2G memory card in it and have a spear set of batteries.

The kids where unstoppable and at every chance they borrowed the camera and did the most crazy shots, funny and also some very nice ones. The best of all is that opposite to our older experiences, we took advice of a Newbie Photography tips book and checked it over with our boys. They learned all the basic we didn’t have in our beginnings. And believe me it makes a difference.

Also very important is that with a digital camera, you can check out the photo right away, if something does not fit or look good, clear and shoot again, at least in most of the cases. On this trip we took about 2000 shots back home and most of them where OK, including those taken by the kids. Every day at the hotel we downloaded and organized the shots of the day and in some days we even did this twice.

Now, one thing we confirmed on this adventure, is:

Allow kids to have fun just let them know the basics and safety instructions on using a camera as not walking while looking through the camera; stumble may always be a risk in doing so. We learned it the hard way, one minor bumped knee for our youngest and luckily just a minor damage to our camera, but the memory card and the shots of the morning where lost.

I hope this Newbie Photography tip will prevent your kids and equipment from any harm.

Newbie Photography Tips

admin on Sep-15-2008

Now a day and with the new hi-tech Digital cameras, anyone can be a good photographer with a little patience and thought. Here you will find some basic newbie photography tips to get you on the track to making great photographs.

Get To Know Your Camera.

Even if most cameras are similar in the basic functions there is mostly some great number of differences in their capabilities. That’s way it is important to get to know your camera and its owner’s manual is the right way to go. Find out the flash range, and when you are plan on using it, always have this range in mind. Identify the focus points on the viewfinder or display screen. Cameras divers on the spot where they adjust the focus and you may found out it’s either in the center, on the right side, on corners or other specific spots. Knowing these focus capabilities will help you to focus first and then frame your shot.

Get closer to your objective.

Always keep in mind who or what the subject of your photograph is. Don’t be afraid to get close and if you think you are close enough, get closer to verify. When photographing people, a too large background usually causes distraction or even getting lost in front of the observant perspective. So don’t allow too much space above a person’s head. Try to fill your screen or viewfinder with your subject. Just keep in mind, the limitations of your camera and the focus range it can handle. In most cases this will be around 3 feet. The zoom may be a great way to get around it and do the take closer than that.

Rule of Thirds.

Perhaps this is the most well know principle of photographic composition. Imagine your photo is divided into 3 by 3 equal parts, horizontal and vertical. Placing your main subjects around 2 of the 4 intersections of these lines, are thought to produce a more eye-pleasing photograph.

Find the Spot.

Move around and find the best side of your subject. Move side to side, up and down and try to level yourself with it. Sometimes, the best spot may be right above it. By simply moving around your subject can create surprising results and incredible photographs.

Watch for your surroundings.

Even if you shall focus on your subject, don’t forget that the surroundings may absorb or diminish it. Always consider where it is located and tray to take the best advantages to stress out its main future. Believe it or not, it is easy to miss these things. Try to keep your background and surroundings simple. And try to keep bright light sources at your back.

Practice these simple newbie photography tips and you may find the artist within you. Remember that practice makes the master and keep looking for more idea and techniques that can significantly improve your images and you will be on your way to making great photographs!
