  11. cameralabs Said,

    You could try …
You could try focusing on a distnat light, like a building or a streetlamp, and then use the self-timer to allow any wobbles from your hands to disappear before it then takes the shot.

So whenever i try to get a night time photo, it comes bit blurry! otherwise exellent shots. It seems the autofocus is not focusing the lense to infinity. How can i make the camera to focus to infinty in the night?

  17. cameralabs Said,

    Closing the …
Closing the aperture would increase the depth of field, and also potentially improve the lens quality (up to around f8 anyway), but obviously it would let less light in and require longer exposures. If that subsequently exceeded 30 seconds, then you’d be looking at using Bulb and a cable release, which goes beyond this particular tutorial. Feel free to discuss it further in the dlsrtips section of the cameralabs . com forum though!

  18. pwargan Said,

    Why purchase a dSLR …
Why purchase a dSLR if you don’t know what you are doing? Here is some advice: never use the camera in automatic mode. Use either Av (aperture priority - you set the aperture number, the higher the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light gets into your camera, a small aperture number results in a large opening and reduces the depth of field: it blurs the background) or Tv (shutter priority - controls how long the shutter is open and sets aperture automatically).

  19. pwargan Said,

    Wouldn’t setting …
Wouldn’t setting the ISO to 100 and the aperture to something lower - f/8 or even f/16 - improve the DOP and quality of the image. You are the first person I know of to recommend opening up the aperture in night photography.

ohh, how can u set a canon eos 450d to bulb mode? is it just by turning the shutter speed to 30″?

  23. cameralabs Said,

    No. Bulb mode keeps …
No. Bulb mode keeps the shutter open for as long as you press the button (or a cable release). You’d use Bulb if you wanted exposures longer than 30 seconds (or 60 on an Olympus DSLR).
